ACHIEVING ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE
Organic waste
We recover 96 % of organic materials by
converting them into renewable energy
and agricultural inputs .
For example , process sludge from our
water treatment processes is transformed
into biogas to power production facilities .
• Bio - based by - products are composted
and repurposed to enrich agricultural
soils or used in other value - adding
applications .
• Grain dust captured during processing
is used as biofuel to power factory
boilers , thereby contributing to local
renewable heat production .
Inorganic waste
Inorganic waste streams include paper ,
cardboard , plastic , metal , wood , glass
and other non - hazardous waste . These
streams are segregated at site level
and recycled wherever possible , with
residual non - recyclable waste managed
by authorised partners for appropriate
recovery or disposal .
One of the ways we are advancing our
sustainability goals is through a malt bag
recycling partnership in North America .
In collaboration with Hopworks Urban
Brewery and Vancouver Plastics ,
the initiative recycles up to 200 , 000
high - density polyethylene malt bags
each year .
This year alone our Chicago
distribution centre recycled 107 , 000
bags . These bags are collected ,
compacted and sent to specialised
recycling facilities , where they are
processed into new materials such as
plastic lumber and durable consumer
goods .
