ACHIEVING ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE

OUR PERFORMANCE
Our goal is to reduce water intensity
across our global operations by 30 %
by 2030 using the 2020 ’ s 4 . 17 cubic
metres per tonne ( m
3
/ t ) as
a baseline .
This progress ref lects the impact of
targeted upgrades as well as the
introduction of new steeping methods ,
recovery systems and eff iciency
innovations , several of which are
highlighted in the case studies that
follow .
Assessing water
stress risks
In 2025 , we carried out an
assessment to evaluate our
sites ’ exposure to current and
future water risks leading up
to 2030 .
We tracked key indicators
like water stress , water
depletion , drought and f loods
to understand how water risks
could affect each of our sites .
These metrics help us
anticipate how changing
weather patterns and
increasing demand could
affect our sites ' long - term water
security . The results show that
water availability is declining
in many regions , driven by the
combined effects of climate
change and growing pressure
on freshwater resources to
meet domestic , commercial and
industrial demand .
Regions that already face water
risks are likely to become even
more vulnerable , while several
low - risk sites are expected to
shift into medium - or high - risk
categories .
This suggests that business - as -
usual water availability cannot
be assumed in the coming
years . It also highlights why
innovations and continued
investment in water
stewardship and climate
resilience are so important
for our business and the
communities around us .
Souff let Malt is committed to
reducing water consumption
by 30 % through advanced processes
such as Optisteep , Nanobubbles ,
Reverse osmosis , washing
screw systems and Multisteep , a
Souff let Malt - patented innovation
demonstrating our leadership in
eff iciency and sustainability . In our
new malthouse in South Africa ,
the combined use of washing
screw technology and Multisteep
is specif ically designed to help
deliver this outcome .
